Description
Garmin Epix Standard Full Specifications, Features, Pros and Cons – The new Epix Gen 2 is a new multisport GPS variant from Garmin. It was released alongside the Fenix 7 series, and both have the same features except that the Epix has an AMOLED display which is more colorful and brighter than the transflective memory-in-pixel display of Fenix 7. The Epix series is available in two units; Epix Standard and Epix Sapphire. The difference between these two is that the Sapphire unit is more durable, features more preloaded maps and supports multi-band GPS for increased tracking accuracy just like in the case of Sapphire and Standard units of Fenix 7.
The difference between the Epix and Fenix 7 is that the former comes with a more colorful display and it doesn’t have a solar model like the Fenix 7. Beyond this, both Fenix 7 and Epix series have the same features.
Garmin Epix Standard vs Epix Sapphire
The Epix Gen 2 comes in two units; Epix Sapphire and the base model. The difference between these two is that the Sapphire unit has a more durable build and comes with a higher 32GB storage as against 16GB of the base model. It also supports multi-band GPS and comes with a preloaded topographical map, road and & trail map, and ski resort map. The base model only comes with a preloaded ski resort map, but you can still download the other two and more using the map manager app on the watch.
Garmin Epix Standard – Design, display, media storage, activity tracking and more
The Epix (Gen 2) comes in two models; Epix Standard and Epix Sapphire. The difference between these two is that the Sapphire unit has a more durable build consisting of Sapphire glass protecting the display and a titanium bezel. It also comes with preloaded topographical, road/trail and ski resort maps, it also supports multi-band GPS for greater accuracy in location tracking, and has a higher 32GB storage capacity. The base model comes with only preloaded ski resort maps, 16GB storage, has a Corning Gorilla Glass DX and stainless steel bezel. You can still download additional maps to the watch.
The Epix Standard has a durable build made of a fiber-polymer case with a stainless steel rear cover, and 22mm silicone straps that can be changed. The bezel is made of stainless steel while Corning Gorilla Glass DX protects the display. It has same 47 x 47 x 14.5mm size as the Fenix 7 units, and it’s rated 10ATM.
The main difference between the Epix and Fenix 7 is the display type. The Epix has AMOLED powering its 1.3 inches display just like the Venu 2 series. It supports touchscreen alongside 5 physical buttons and a revamped interface that makes it very easy to interact with the watch. You can always change the watch face as wish.
Beyond the premium build, Epix is very fitness-focused. With a handful of sensors built-in, it will track all the basics such as your heart rate, steps, sleep, calories, blood oxygen, floors climbed, respiratory rate and more.
New HIIT workout has been added as well as kiteboard, snowshoe and windsurfs sport profiles.
The Epix Standard unit comes with preloaded ski resort maps. You can still download the topographical and road/trail maps using the manager app.
Epix Standard comes with a 16GB storage capacity with Spotify, Deezer and Amazon Music supported. You can download your playlists from any of these services (payment may be required), then pair a Bluetooth headphone to listen to music.
Epix also has a decently long battery life of up to 16 days and up to 42hrs in GPS-only mode.
