Few days ago, the long-awaited loss of pause detection feature that was announced with the release of Pixel Watch 3 in 2024 and has been available in 14 countries is now approved in the US.
Google has just received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the Loss of Pulse Detection feature of the Pixel Watch 3.
This means the loss of pause detection feature is now available in 15 countries.
If you recall, the loss of pause feature was first introduced to the Pixel Watch 3 but was not available in the US.
However, with the FDA approval, users of the Pixel Watch 3 in the US will now be able to access the loss of pulse detection feature, which Google says will begin to roll out by the end of March.
According to Google, the loss of pause detection is the first-of-its-kind that can detect when you’ve experienced a loss of pulse. That is, when your heart stops beating from an event like primary cardiac arrest, respiratory failure or any other cause
When the Pixel watch detects a loss of pause, it will automatically start a call to a preset emergency contact for an immediate and potentially life-saving care if you’re unresponsive.
The Pixel Watch 3 will not immediately call emergency contact when it detects a loss of pause. Instead, it will countdown to 20 seconds, and if you are unresponsive within this time, the call will be made. This ensures that calls are not made mistakenly.
Thanks to the Fitbit ecosystem, the Pixel Watch is a fitness-focused watch which boasts many health tracking features, including skin temperature measurement, fall detection, car crash detection, ECG, and Irregular Heart Rhythm notifications.
And with loss of pause detection added to the list, the Pixel Watch 3 is no doubt a comprehensive health tracker and of course, one of the best fitness watches.
