Samsung Galaxy Watch – My Experience After 3 Months

Today, I’ll be reviewing the Samsung Galaxy Watch which I have used for over three months. The Galaxy Watch is a comprehensive smartwatch pack with both lifestyle and fitness tracking features. It’s built with durable materials and loaded with lots of features, and as well as long battery life. I’m going to share with you my 3 months experience with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 46mm Bluetooth model although there is now a Galaxy watch 3 which has a higher storage capacity, more health tracking features, and a refined design.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Comprehenive Review

DESIGN

  1. Sturdy and Rugged Design
  2. Starting with the design, the Galaxy Watch has a remarkable design which I think is a prestigious one. It’s also durable and tough thanks to its MIL-STD-810G military-grade rating. It comes in two sizes 46mm and 42mm, each of these is also available in two models; LTE and Bluetooth-only model. The LTE model is a standalone smartwatch that allows you to make and receive calls, access the internet without carrying your phone along.

The Galaxy Watch has a case made of stainless steel, while the straps which come in 22mm for the 46mm model and 20mm for the 42mm model are made of silicone. The touch-sensitive screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass DX. So, this smartwatch is very sturdy, I have no doubt about it.

  3. Display
  4. AMOLED powers the display of the Galaxy Watch, while the 46mm has a 1.3 inches display size, the 42mm has a 1.2 inches display size. So, it’s easier to read complications on the 46mm model than on the 42mm model. AMOLED powers the display of the Galaxy Watch with a 360 x 360 resolution that offers a rich and satisfying viewing experience. Both have an always-on display with touchscreen support that allows for easy navigation. Corning Gorilla DX+ protects the screen which offers superior clarity and durability.

  5. Navigation
  6. One of the finest features of the Galaxy Watch is its physical rotating bezel which Samsung replicated in Galaxy Watch 3. The physical rotating bezel makes scrolling so effortless. And in addition to its 2 physical buttons and touchscreen support, the Galaxy Watch is very easy to navigate.

When you swipe right, you’ll see your list of widgets which are a maximum of 15. These widgets make it easy to access information that matters most to you. When you swipe left, you can see your list of notifications, and when you swipe down, you get to see the quick panel section that contains stuff like touch light, sleep mode, brightness, and more. You can easily adjust and arrange the order of widgets.

  7. Lots of Watch Faces to Choose From
  8. Samsung Galaxy Watch watch faces
    Samsung Galaxy Watch watch faces
One other fine feature I like about Samsung smartwatches is the quantum of watch faces available. There are just a few watch faces in the Galaxy Wearable app, but you’ll find lots of third-party options in Samsung’s Galaxy store. I like the fact that I can also choose and install watch faces and apps directly on the watch for as long as the connected phone is nearby. The LTE model of the Galaxy Watch allows you to install apps and watch faces without needing your phone.

  9. Waterproof Rating

Rated 5ATM, the Galaxy Watch is swim-proof and safe to wear while swimming. It has a water eject mode that allows you to eject water from the watch after deeping it into water. When the water eject mode is activated, the watch makes some sound which removes the water from the loudspeaker.

HEALTH AND FITNESS TRACKING

As per fitness tracking, the Galaxy Watch will track your heart rate, sleep, calories, steps, and distance. Thanks to the built-in sensors like accelerometer, barometric altimeter, heart rate sensor, gyroscope, and GPS.

  • Sleep Tracking
  • Sleep tracking on Galaxy Watch
    Sleep tracking on Galaxy Watch

The Galaxy Watch tracks your sleep every night, although it’s quite bulky to wear to sleep. I do wear it some nights and it tracks your sleep in four stages; light, awake, deep, and REM, and it shows a sleep trend overtime.

  • Heart Rate Monitor
  • Heart rate tracking with Samsung Galaxy Watch
Heart rate tracking with Samsung Galaxy Watch
There are many ways the Galaxy Watch can track your heart rate. It can track your heart rate manually, continuously, or intermittently every 10 minutes. It shows your resting heart rate and heart rate range daily or weekly. To view more stats about your heart rate, you can check the Samsung Health app.

  • Outdoor Activity Tracking With Inbuilt GPS
  • Outdoor activity tracking with Samsung Galaxy Watch
Outdoor activity tracking with Samsung Galaxy Watch
With inbuilt GPS in Galaxy Watch, you can wear it during outdoor activities and it will track your route, real-time pace, heart rate, calories, and other metrics. After a workout, you can view all tracked metrics directly on the watch. However, to get more details about tracked metrics from your outdoor workout, you can open the Samsung Health app.

  • Preloaded Sport Modes

  • 39 sport modes are featured in the Galaxy Watch, this allows you to choose your preferred workout modes, and it can auto-detect and track 6 sport modes. You can choose a workout mode from the Samsung Health app in the Galaxy Watch.

  • Other Activity Tracking Features

The Galaxy Watch also tracks all the basics like your steps, calories, and distance. There is a stress app that can guide you through a breathing session to help you recover from stress. And as well as the menstrual cycle app which allows women to log and track period cycles. You can also log your food and water intake using the respective widgets apps.

MEDIA

You can store music on Watch, you can also install apps, watch faces and images. The Galaxy Watch has a 4GB storage capacity out of which about 2.5GB is available for use.

It also has both a microphone and loudspeaker which enables you to make and receive calls directly from the watch. It syncs your phone contacts and allows you to easily select a number you wish to call. You can also receive calls directly from the watch, you can decide to speak directly or connect a wireless Bluetooth headphone.

Bixby is the voice Assistant on Galaxy Watch, you can use Bixby to start an exercise, check the alarm, check the weather, and more.

I do enjoy playing music aloud from the Galaxy Watch while running or just during recreation. You can add a Bluetooth headphone to allow you to enjoy music hand free.

CONNECTIVITY

The standard Galaxy Watch is equipped with Bluetooth and WiFi which allows for different means of communicating with the watch. However, the LTE model comes with an e-SIM that allows you to make and receive calls directly from the watch. You can also install apps and watch faces independently, and as well reply to notifications directly from the watch.

BATTERY LIFE

One major reason why the Galaxy Watch is very popular is because of its decent battery life. It’s not the longest of them all, but it can take you through a couple of days from a single charge. The 46mm model with 472mAh battery capacity has longer battery life than the 42mm model with 272mAh.

On average I got about 3 days plus battery life with the Galaxy Watch. I tested the Galaxy Watch based on, 30 minutes of outdoor activity tracking, always-on display mode turned off, 20 apps selected to receive notifications with maximum brightness, yet I averaged about 3 days battery life.

NOTIFICATIONS

Beyond the design and activity tracking features, the Galaxy Watch also helps me manage notifications. So I can setup which apps I want to receive notifications from and I can reply to messages in three ways; voice reply, texts, and emojis. There are over 30 preset replies which you can customize or add more. The Galaxy Watch also shows chat history which is also now possible with Active 2 and Galaxy Watch 3.

Pros

  • Sturdy and rugged design.
  • Has microphone and loudspeaker.
  • You can make and receive calls from watch.
  • A decent fitness smartwatch.
  • Up to 4 days long battery life.

Cons

  • The 46mm model is bulky and thick.

Conclusion

From my experience, I would say Samsung Galaxy Watch is a fine smartwatch. It has a decent design, long battery life, and equipped with lots of fitness and lifestyle features. If you’re looking for a smartwatch that does it all, then the Galaxy Watch is a decent choice, even better is the Galaxy Watch 3 which is compact and has more fitness tracking features.

Fitbit Versa 2 Review – A Comprehensive Review After 3 Months Use

Fitbit Versa 2 released last year and costs $180 with Fitbit Versa 3 as its successor is available in 5 colors; black/carbon, stone/mist grey, petal/copper-rose, bordeaux/copper-rose, and mist grey. Versa 2 looks more like an Apple Watch and it has outsmarted its predecessor, the original Versa. There are some poor features in the original Versa which Fitbit has done well to correct in Versa 2. Though it might look like a smartwatch, it’s an excellent fitness and sleep-tracker, not a complete smartwatch. If you seek a complete smartwatch go for an Apple Watch or Samsung smartwatches. For outdoor activities, the Versa 2 fails because it will need to be connected to your phone GPS as it lacks an inbuilt GPS. This is disappointing for its price of which a low-profile Huawei Band 4 Pro device has. This Fitbit Versa 2 comprehensive review takes a deep dive into what you can expect from this smartwatch and if it’s worth buying in 2020 with Versa 3 already available.

Fitbit Versa 2 Review

DESIGN

  1. Very Lightweight and Sturdy Design
  2. Fitbit Versa 2 looks a lot similar to the original Versa, though Fitbit has added some more features. It has a square face with smooth rounded corners and one physical button, unlike its predecessor that has three buttons – two on the left and one on the right. There’s just one button on the left side of the Versa 2 which serves as both the ‘select’ and the ‘back’. A shortcut can also be assigned to the side button. It’s an excellent fitness tracker with its decent look, lightweight design, and is comfortable enough to wear all day and night.

The bands are interchangeable, you can change the bands with classic leather, metal, or any other strap of your choice. The versa 2 has a quick-release pin, easy to pull out but getting the pin to click into place can be quite frustrating.

  3. Display
  4. Fitbit Versa 2 has a touchscreen AMOLED display of about 1.4 inches and a dimension of 300 × 300px, making the black colors a lot darker. It is bright and easy to read no matter the light conditions. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which offers protection and durability. It also has an always-on display, but this might be a little disappointing because it affects battery life.

Fitbit Versa 2 has an always-on display that can show exercise stats at a glance. But note that this can also affect the battery performance.

  5. Lots of Watch Faces

  6. The Fitbit app allows you to access a variety of clock faces, so you can customize the look of the Versa 2. Though some are premium watch faces which you’re allowed to use for about 2 hours in most cases. To install a watch face, log in to the Fitbit app, tap on clock faces and then on all clocks to manage and as well select your desired watch faces. You can only store upto 5 watch faces at a time on the Versa 2.

  7. Waterproof Rating

Versa 2 comes with a waterproof case that is water-resistant up to 50 meters, with this you can wear the versa 2 to shower, pool, and beyond without having to worry about it getting damaged by water.

HEALTH AND FITNESS TRACKING

Fitbit Versa 2 is a fullfledged fitness tracker that can track your exercises, heart rate, and sleep. It tracks all-day activities like your exercises, steps, distance, calories burned, floor climbed, heart rate, sleep, active minutes, hourly activities, and stationary time.

It automatically records any selected exercises like running, skipping, swimming, walking, and more, you can see stats in the Fitbit app and also get post-workout summaries. You can also see your real-time pace and distance by connecting to your phone GPS, then get a map of your routes in the Fitbit app.

  • Sleep Tracking
  • Another feature of the Versa 2 is in-depth sleep tracking. When I wore my versa 2 to bed, I liked how it tracked my time spent in light, deep, awake, and REM sleep stages. This feature is quite amazing as it helps you understand your sleep quality each night. And because Versa 2 is lightweight, I find it very comfortable to wear to bed with no stress at all. The Fitbit app also shows my sleep score which gives me a quick report of how well I slept at a glance.

  • Heart Rate Monitor
  • At the back of the Versa 2, is the heart rate monitor. It tracks your heart rate 24/7 and it shows my heart rate zones. It also shows a trend of my heart rate over time which I think can be a good idea to share with your doctor if the need arises.

  • Swim Tracking
  • With its swim-proof case that is water-resistant up to 50 meters, Fitbit versa 2 is swim-proof and it can also track your pool workout.

  • Menstrual Health
  • For women, you can use your Versa 2 with Fitbit app to log your period cycle, record symptoms, and fertile window.

  • Exercises

The Fitbit app has 20 exercises and you can only store 7 exercises in the shortcut list on your smartwatch. Tap on any exercises from the shortcut list on your smartwatch to start, while the Versa 2 can auto-track up to 6 exercises.

MEDIA

  • Music Experience
  • You can use the music desktop app to transfer music to the Versa 2, but this requires an available WiFi network to transfer music. You can also control your Spotify app and add a Deezer playlist with your subscription and play songs on your Versa 2. You can also download Pandora stations to the Versa 2. To listen to music, you’ll have to connect a Bluetooth headphone which can be done from the settings app>>audio devices.

  • Microphone

Another feature of the Versa 2 is the microphone which you can now use for voice replies with Android phones and to give Alexa commands.

NOTIFICATIONS

Another fine feature of Versa 2 is that you can see calls, messages, text, calendar notifications from your smartphone on Versa 2, that’s if the connected smartphone is nearby. But only Android users can reply to notifications using preset replies and emojis, you can also respond to messages with your voice. All thanks to its microphone which you can use for voice replies. Although you can’t answers calls with the versa 2.

MISC

  • Sleep Mode
  • The Versa 2 has a sleep mode that disables notifications from buzzing or display from lightening up and keeps the screen off while you are asleep.

  • Do Not Disturb Mode
  • There’s also the do not disturb mode which is a lot similar to sleep mode. When activated, it switches of notifications. Do not disturb can be activated simply by swiping down and accessing the quick panel settings.

  • Find Phone
  • You can use the built-in find my phone app to locate a misplaced phone. Just tap on the find phone app and your phone will continuously ring and vibrate until you discover its location.

  • Alexa
  • Fitbit Versa 2 has an Amazon Alexa app, you can use the Alexa built in-app to get quick news and information, check the weather, and more using the sound of your voice. By default, Alexa is assigned to the side button which can be accessed by long-pressing the side button, Alexa will pop up and will start listening to your voice queries. Alexa does a little thinking and connects to available wifi and provides the answers you seek.

  • Fitbit Pay

The versa 2 has an inbuilt wallet app that allows you to pay from your wrist without your wallet or your card. Though you’ll have to set it up. And Fitbit pay is not available in every country.

BATTERY LIFE

Fitbit Versa 2 can last up to 5 days+ though it varies, and depends on your settings. When you set it to always-on display it affects the battery performance and you will have to charge your Versa 2 more often.

Pros

  • Long lasting battery Life.
  • Comfortable to wear, it is lightweight.
  • Swim-proof.
  • A decent health and fitness tracker..

Cons

  • Lacks GPS meaning you have to take your phone for outdoor workout which is quite unfortunate.
  • Changing of strap; despite the quick- release pin it is painful to insert a new strap .

Samsung Galaxy Fit In-Depth Review Hands-on – A Decent Fitness Smartband

Samsung Galaxy Fit indepth review

The Galaxy Fit was released last year and has since then gone to be one of the best fitness smartbands on the market. It’s a decent fitness tracker that is designed to track your daily active life, help you stay connected to important updates from your phone, and as well as a long battery life that lets you go long from a single charge. I have been using this smartband for a couple of weeks, and in this Samsung Galaxy Fit in-depth review, I can tell you that this smartband is a fine fitness tracker, but there are a couple of things I don’t like which I’ll also mention in this post.

Samsung Galaxy Fit Review

  1. Very Lightweight and Sturdy Designs
  2. Galaxy fit case is made of a nice aluminum that doesn’t seem like it could be easily scratched. It has a heart rate sensor underneath and there is also a physical button on the left side that you can map as a shortcut when you long-press it.

When you talk about the weight, It’s lightweight at just 24 grams. I never really notice it’s on my wrist, making it optimal for fitness and sleep tracking. All thanks to its aluminum case and silicon band. The bands are well designed and can easily be adjusted to achieve good heart rate readings, you’ll often end up with some nice imprints in your skin after wearing it for a workout and for long hours.

Another nice feature is that the Galaxy fit straps are interchangeable. Little clips on the underside let you remove and replace each side of the strap, so you can switch it out if you don’t get on with it, and you can actually replace the straps with a preferred choice.

As per navigation, the Galaxy fit screen is touch-sensitive and It’s the only control interface other than the back button on the side. From the watch face, you can swipe left and right to cycle between the various widgets. When you swipe left, you will see a list of widgets which includes your stress level, your heart rate, calendar, alarm, steps, sleep, calories, preset workouts, and more. From your app, you can customize what widgets to show on your galaxy fit, there are a total of 13 widgets in all.

The Galaxy Fit has a 0.95 inch AMOLED display that very colorful and interactive, I think it’s very colorful for a small device like this. However, I don’t like the fact that the Galaxy Fit lacks an always-on display mode.

When you swipe down, it takes you to the quick panel, which brings you to goodnight mode, do not disturb, vibration, water lock mode, and wake up gesture. You can also edit the quick panel settings from the Galaxy Wearable app on your smart devices.

The Samsung Galaxy fit has seven essential different watch faces and there is an analog and digital display with a total sum of 43 watch faces. There are no too many watch faces to choose and available ones aren’t the most stylish especially when compared to Huawei Band 4 Pro which offers a lot of watch faces.

  3. Waterproof Rating

Galaxy Fit has a 5ATM water-resistance rating, meaning it can withstand being submerged under 165feet of water and is safe for swimming, showering, or while outside the rain.

Fitness and Activity Tracking Review

Please Note: Stats tracked by the Galaxy Fit or any other smartband cannot replace your doctor. Results can only serve as a recommendation, always seeks your doctor’s advice.

Galaxy Fit actually does a great job as a decent fitness tracker which gives a consistent tracking of my day in day out activities, it keeps track of my steps taken, distance traveled, calories burnt, active time, resting/active heart rate, stress, and sleep. It syncs with the Samsung Health app to display metrics like sleep records, heart rate, calories, steps, and more. You can also view routes, location, and pace for outdoor workouts from the app.

  1. 90 Preset Workouts Modes With Auto Workout Detection
  2. When it’s time for exercise, the Galaxy Fit automatically tracks my walking, running, biking, rowing, elliptical training, and dynamic workouts. Although the Galaxy Fit lacks inbuilt GPS which is a big turn-off, it does connect to my phone GPS to track my location and routes. If you’d rather trigger an activity manually, Samsung Health supports up to 90 different activities. Everything from crunches, swimming, walking, hiking to bowling is supported here. You can store up to 10 workouts at any given time on the Galaxy Fit.

  3. Lacks Inbuilt GPS For Outdoor Activity Tracking
  4. The Galaxy fit lacks inbuilt GPS, however, it can connect to the paired phone GPS to track outdoor activities. When I go out for outdoor activities like running or walking, I simply start the workout from the Galaxy Fit, but must carry my phone along. This can be inconvenient sometimes. After an outdoor workout, you can view your routes and locations from the Samsung Health App.

  5. Sleep Tracking
  6. The Galaxy Fit will also record sleep. In the sleep section of the Samsung Health app, you’ll find your total time asleep, sleep stages (including time awake, REM, light, and deep sleep), calories burned throughout the night, consistency targets, averages, and sleep trends over time. All this information is super helpful for those looking to improve their sleeping habits.

  7. Stress Monitoring
  8. This is a very good feature of the Samsung Galaxy fit that I love, I can use my smartband to measure my stress which can help me reduced stress through its guided breathing sessions. I also receive reminders to move if I have been sitting for too long.

  9. Heart Rate Tracking
  10. The Galaxy Fit does a good job of tracking my heart rate, heart rate tracking results were always consistent when compared to Fitbit Versa 2. It shows my resting and maximum heart rate, and you can also view more info about heart rate tracked data from the Samsung Health app.

  11. Up to 6 Days Long Battery Life
  12. The Galaxy Fit battery life can last between six and seven days. The Samsung Galaxy Fit also has NFC, but you may wonder why. This tracker does not support Samsung Pay, a wireless payments platform, and NFC is not used in the pairing process. It’s used solely by the charger dock. I wore the Galaxy Fit every day and tracked my 2 hours walking workout in those days, it lasted up to 6 days.

  13. Notifications

I always receive notifications on my Galaxy Fit from my Galaxy wearable app installed on my smartphone, notifications. I read WhatsApp messages, and see incoming calls on the band. Though you can’t make calls or receive calls as this does not have a speaker nor microphone. You will get a little buzz when notifications arrive. You can choose the apps that get through to the band, and reply to messages with preset replies. A few are premade but you can write more premade responses from the wearable app if you want to. You can as well turn off your notifications while you are using your phone. There’s even a handy Find My Band option in the Galaxy Wearable phone app if you happen to misplace your smartband.

Pros

  • Lightweight and stylish design.
  • 6-7 Days long battery life
  • Swim-proof.
  • 90 preset workout modes.

Cons

  • The loop-over silicone strap is quite difficult to wear and less comfortable..
  • Lacks inbuilt GPS.
  • Lacks always-on display mode.
