Fitbit Charge 4 Specifications and prices

Summary

In summary, both the Inspire 2 and Charge 4 do about the same thing which is to help you stay fit and as well help you manage notifications you receive from your phone. Each of these two will track your heart rate, sleep in four stages, calories and steps. You will also get the option of choosing from 20 preset sport modes on both smartbands. And you can choose apps to receive notifications from. Both devices also have long battery life.

However,

  1. Charge 4 has a slightly bigger display than Inspire 2, yet very compact and lightweight.
  2. Charge 4 has inbuilt GPS that allows you to track your outdoor activities without having to carry your phone along. Unlike Inspire 2 which will also allow you to track outdoor activities like your route and location, but you must carry your phone along with you.
  3. Charge 4 will track your SpO2 level and display the result via any of Fitbit’s SpO2 watch faces, Inspire 2 lacks SpO2 monitoring.
  4. Charge 4 has an altimeter that enables it to count floors climbed which Inspire 2 lacks.
  5. There’s an NFC chip in Charge 4 which will allow you to access Fitbit Pay and make payment with your card directly from the Charge 4. Inspire 2 lacks this feature.
  6. Charge 4 can control Spotify playlist which isn’t possible with Inspire 2.
  7. Charge 4 has a “Do Not Disturb” mode which Inspire 2 lacks. This will allow you to mute notifications during the time of sleep or otherwise.

On the other hand’

  1. Inspire 2 has a longer battery life of up to 10 days compared to 7 days with Charge 4.
  2. Inspire 2 is also cheaper, yet a nice fitness tracker that can help you stay fit.

Final Words

Fitbit Charge 4 is a more complete device than Inspire 2, it gives you access to more features. On the other hand, Inspire 2 is cheaper and is a decent solution if you’re just interested in the basics and do mostly indoor workouts.

Which is Right For You?

As you can see from the table above, all three smartwatches have a very durable build, decent battery life, and loaded with lots of activity tracking features.

  • Apex Pro has the most sophisticated design
  • Apex Pro which is the most expensive of the three no doubt has the most durable build, it has a titanium bezel, aluminum case, and silicone straps with sapphire glass covering the screen. Apex follows up with a stainless steel bezel, aluminum case, and silicone or nylon straps with sapphire glass covering the display. Pace 2 on the other hand, is also durably built with a fiber-reinforced polymer case and bezel, silicone straps, and corning gorilla glass covering the screen.

Looking at the display, all three smartwatches have an always-on memory LCD display which isn’t so colorful when compared to AMOLED, but easy to read outdoors. However, only Apex Pro is equipped with touchscreen support in addition to three physical buttons, while Apex and Pace have two buttons each. The additional button on Apex Pro is a dedicated backlight button which the other two lack.

While Pace 2 is rated 5ATM, Apex Pro and Apex are both rated 10ATM which represent a 100meter waterproof rating. So, these two will allow you to dive even deeper and comes in handy for pro swimmers.

In other words, Apex Pro has a more sophisticated design than both Apex and Pace 2.

  • Apex Pro has the most fitness tracking features – It features pulse oximeter
  • When you look at the fitness tracking features present in all three smartwatches, you’ll notice that Apex Pro has the most fitness tracking features. Although, all three smartwatches are well equipped with inbuilt GPS, heart rate sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, and barometer that enable any of these three to track your steps, calories, routes, locations, training effect, training load, threshold pace, floors climbed, elevations and more. All three smartwatches are also equipped with preset sport modes and can also track your heart rate while swimming.

However, Apex Pro is equipped to measure your blood oxygen which Apex and Pace 2 cannot. It also features route back navigation which can help you find your way back especially when the GPS signal is weak.

  • Apex Pro has the longest battery life

It is good to note that all three smartwatches will allow you to go long from a single charge. With each of these three, you can get weeks-long battery life. Apex Pro however has the longest battery life, it offers about 30 days on normal usage compared to 30 days of Apex and 20 days of Pace 2. With continuous GPS tracking, Apex pro can last up to 40 hours compared to 35 hours of Apex and 30 hours of Pace 2.

Our Verdict

Apex Pro is no doubt the best choice out of these three, it has the most sophisticated design. it also features more activity tracking features and the longest battery life. It however will cost you more. It’s followed up closely by Apex which also has a premium design, lots of features, and a decent battery life.

On the other hand, Pace 2 is a cheaper alternative. It’s very lightweight, has a very long battery life, lots of fitness tracking features, and a durable build.

Features Comparison

  1. Design: Both Versa 3 and Venu have got a lightweight, compact and durable design
  2. Each of these two smartwatches has got a decent design that is built with durable materials. Aluminum material has been used for the case of Versa 3, while reinforced polymer has been used for the case of Venu, both materials are very lightweight. The strap of both smartwatches is made of silicone that is also lightweight, interchangeable and compatible with 20mm-wide straps.

In terms of dimension, Versa 3 at 12mm thick is slightly slimmer than Venu which is 12.4cm thick. The shapes are also different which is very noticeable, a square shape Versa 3 vs a circular Venu, and with a stainless steel bezel, the Venu has a classic appearance as against the sporty design of Versa 3.

There are lots of watch faces to choose from on the respective platforms; Fitbit app for Versa 3 or Garmin connect store for Venu. Both are rated 5ATM which is equivalent to 50 meters and makes any of these two swim-proof.

So, as far as design is concerned, each of these has got a nice and elegant design. However, Garmin Venu looks more attractive with its circular shape and stainless steel bezel.

  3. FITNESS TRACKING
  4. Going by the fitness tracking features present in each of these two, both Versa 3 and Venu are well equipped to track a whole lot of activities. Any of these two can track your sleep comprehensively in stages, and as well as your heart rate. There is inbuilt GPS on both Versa 3 and Venu, this allows you to track outdoor activities.

Other common fitness tracking features include stress measurement, 20 preloaded sport modes and the ability to count floors climbed. You can log your water intake on both smartwatches, and for women, it allows you to track your menstrual cycle.

Versa 3 through Fitbit coach app features animated workout modes that coach you through your favorite moves, Venu also features animated workout modes.

The main difference as per fitness tracking is that while each of these two can measure your blood oxygen levels, Venu can measure your blood oxygen level during the day and when you sleep, unlike Versa 3 that only measures your blood oxygen overnight when you wear it to sleep and displays your SpO2 levels through the SpO2 watch faces.

Additionally, Venu features incidental fall detection which allows the watch to call a preset emergency number when it detects a hard fall as long as it’s near to the connected phone.

  5. Music Storage – You can’t add personal music to Versa 3
  6. Each of these two comes with 4GB storage capacity out of which about 2GB is available for use, this allows you to store your favorite tracks on the watch. However, Versa 3 has a limited option as far as music storage is concerned, it only allows you to add your Pandora, Deezer and Spotify playlists. Meanwhile, Venu allows you to download Spotify, Deezer and you can also sync Amazon music playlists as well as add your personal music tracks.

  7. Versa 3 has both microphone and loudspeaker
  8. There is a loudspeaker and microphone on Versa 3 which allows you to take calls directly from the watch and as well as play music files aloud. Although, you can’t make calls for now from the Versa 3, but you can take calls and talk directly from the watch. Meanwhile, you can only answer calls on Venu which you will have to continue on your phone.

  9. Versa 3 has both Alexa and Google Assistant
  10. Due to the presence of a microphone and loudspeaker on Versa 3, it features Alexa voice assistant and the recently added Google Assistant. You can only use one at a time. With the latest firmware update, you can hear Alexa reply to you, while Google Assistant lacks this feature for now.

I noticed that I could use Google Assistant to start a call on my phone which wasn’t possible with Alexa. The Venu lacks voice Assistant.

  11. 5 Days+ long battery life
  12. From my experience, having used the Versa 3 for a couple of months now, it lasted up to 5 days on average. This is about the same with Venu which averaged about 6 days or more depending on the frequency of use. Its good to note that each of these two allow you to go multiple days from a single charge.

  13. Versa 3 has both Alexa and Google Assistant
  14. Both Versa 3 and Venu allow you to manage notifications that you receive on your phone. Both also feature quick reply functions that allow you to respond to messages with preset custom replies. However, Versa 3 which has a microphone allows you to reply with your voice as well which I find very useful oftentimes.

My Verdict

Each of these two has a decent design, good battery life and lots of activity tracking features, I give it to Venu as far as design and activity tracking are concerned. I thinks it’s a more comprehensive activity tracker and it also looks more attractive than Versa 3.

However, on the other hand, Versa 3 which has both a microphone and loudspeaker and features two voice assistants is a more comprehensive lifestyle smartwatch. Moreover, it’s also cheaper which I think is a great bargain.

Verdict

Each of these two is sturdily built and also very lightweight which means you can wear any of these all day long without even knowing you are wearing a smartband. These two are also decent fitness trackers as any of these two will track your sleep in four stages, track your heart rate, steps, distance, and calories. And with the ability to connect to your phone GPS, you can track your routes and locations which can be viewed from the respective apps, Fitbit app for Inspire 2 and Samsung Health app for Galaxy Fit 2. Moreover, with the long battery of these two, you can go days from a single charge. In other words, each of these two is a fantastic smartband.

However, Galaxy Fit 2 is a more comprehensive smartband. It has a better and richer AMOLED display compared to grayscale OLED (monochrome) of Inspire 2. It also has more preset sport modes, 90 vs 20 of Inspire 2. And with up to 15 days long battery life, it has a longer battery life than Inspire 2. While not forgetting that Galaxy Fit 2 is cheaper.

Features Comparison

  1. DESIGN
  2. The first difference you spot between these two as far as design is concerned is the difference in appearance. While Versa 3 has a square shape which is custom for Fitbit smartwatches, Vivoactive 4 has a circular shape which leaves it with a classic watch design. Both are sturdily built, but with different materials. Aluminum material has been used for both the case and bezel of Versa 3, while Vivoactive 4 has a case made of reinforced fiber-polymer material paired with a stainless steel bezel which I’d say makes it more attractive than Versa 3. I prefer the two physical buttons on Vivoactive 4 to the haptic touch-sensitive button of Versa 3, both also have touchscreen support which no doubt makes interacting with any of these two easy.

The screen of both smartwatches has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and as well-rated 5ATM – this means 50-meter waterproof rating. So it’s safe to wear any of these two while swimming. The strap for both smartwatches is made of silicone material, both are swappable, so you can always change with a compatible size.

Vivoactive 4 comes in two sizes; 45mm and 40mm, so while the 45mm size is slightly bigger than the 40mm Versa 3, it’s just as compact as the smaller size. Vivoactive 4 is slightly thicker than Versa 3, although not so bulky. Both are also lightweight on average, you shouldn’t have any problem wearing any of these two all day long.

The display technology also differs, while AMOLED powers the 1.58 inches display of Versa 3, its MIP LCD technology for Vivoactive 4’s 1.3/1.2 inches display. AMOLED is richer in color and as such Versa 3 has a more colorful and interactive display than that of Vivoactive 4.

In summary, each of these two has a decent design that’s sturdy, compact, and lightweight.

  3. FITNESS TRACKING
  4. With any of these two smartwatches, you can track a whole of activities offered in slightly different ways. Starting from the basics, both smartwatches will track your steps, calories, help you manage stress, track your sleep in stages, and as well track your heart rate. And with inbuilt GPS in each of these two, you can track your outdoor activities like routes, locations, and other related metrics.

You’ll find a menstrual cycle tracking app on both smartwatches that allow women to log and track period cycle. Each of these two will also allow you to log your water and food intake. Moreover, while there’s the Fitbit Coach which features animated workout modes on Versa 3 that coach you through your favorite sport modes, Garmin also offers animated sport modes on Vivoactive 4.

You get to choose from 20 preset sport modes on both smartwatches, both also can count floors climbed – thanks to the altimeter.

However, I think Vivoactive 4 is a more complete fitness smartwatch than Versa 3, it features blood oxygen tracking that monitors your blood oxygen during the day and when you sleep unlike Versa 3 that only tracks your blood oxygen at night when you sleep and then shows you SpO2 levels through Fitbit’s Signature watch face – its not a complete SpO2 tracking feature.

Moreover, Vivoactive 4 has a safety tracking feature that allows it to automatically send your location to a preset contact during outdoor activity – thanks to its built-in incident detection. Versa 3 lacks safety tracking of any sort.

  5. MEDIA
  6. Both smartwatches come with 4GB storage out of which about 2.5GB is available for storing your favorite tracks. For some reason, I can’t add my personal music to Versa 3 which is possible with Versa 2. I can’t tell if this feature will be available on Versa 3 in the future or not. Meanwhile, you can add your personal music to Vivoactive 4, and it also features Amazon Music, Deezer, and Spotify, while Versa 3 features Deezer, Spotify, and Pandora.

Versa 3 has a microphone and loudspeaker which are not present on Vivoactive 4. This allows you to use Alexa voice assistant to do simple tasks with your voice, and at some point later in the future, Google Assistant will be added.

Both smartwatches will allow you to accept or reject calls which must be continued on your connected smartphone. Although, Versa 3 has a loudspeaker that is supposed to allow you to make and receive calls from the watch, but this feature isn’t available yet on Versa 3.

  7. NOTIFICATIONS
  8. Managing notifications you receive on your phone is a basic function that is available in both smartwatches. Any of these two allows you to reply to notifications you receive (Android only). However, while you can reply with emojis, preset texts, and voice on Versa 3, Vivoactive 4 only supports reply with preset texts.

  9. BATTERY LIFE
  10. Like I mentioned earlier, each of these two has a long battery life that allows you to go long from a single charge. I have averaged about 5 days+ with Versa 3 which is slightly behind Vivoactive 4 which can last up to 7 days+.

My Verdict

Although each of these two has got a decent design, long battery life, lots of fitness tracking, and media features. I go with Versa 3, it’s a more complete smartwatch with a microphone and loudspeaker. Meanwhile, as per fitness tracking, Vivoactive 4 is a more comprehensive fitness smartwatch with longer battery life.

How to Setup Incidental Fall Detection For Galaxy Watch 3

Galaxy Watch 3 is a beast, it does well in every department, fitness tracking, attractive and compact design, lots of media features, but so great battery life. The Galaxy Watch 3 features blood oxygen tracking, ECG, and blood pressure monitoring. One other fine activity tracking feature on the Galaxy watch is incidental fall detection. SOS emergency calling has been present on a few Samsung smartwatches like Galaxy watch, Active 2, and Galaxy Watch 3. This feature allows the watch to send a message and call a prechosen number on your contact which can be activated by pressing the home key three times. However, with the addition of incidental fall detection, Galaxy Watch 3 can auto-detect a hard fall and will send SOS messages and calls to a preset contact. This post shows you how to setup incidental fall detection on Galaxy Watch 3.

Setup Incidental Fall Detection on Galaxy Watch 3

  1. Step 1: Open the Galaxy Wearable app and go to the section that says SOS.
  2. Step 2: Next, choose the contacts that you want the watch to call when it detects a hard fall. Also choose the contact you want the watch to make an SOS call to.
  3. Step 3: Furthermore, toggle on “Send SOSes” and Detect falls.
  4. SOS and Fall detection features

That’s it when the Galaxy Watch 3 detects a hard fall, it will send an SOS message and as well make a call to the preset number. Meanwhile, you can always press the home key three times to send SOS calls and messages to the preset contacts.

Ticwatch Pro 3 vs Fossil Gen 5 – Which Should You Buy?

Even though Snapdragon 2100 and then 3100 have been a great disservice to the Wear OS family, the release of Snapdragon 4100 is a huge leap further. The 4100 chip which is faster than its predecessor has a 12nm fabrication process which is the same as Exynos 9110 that powers Samsung’s flagship smartwatches. And Ticwatch Pro 3 is the first Wear OS smartwatch to be powered by the 4100 chip. Meanwhile, Fossil Gen 5 which is powered by the 3100 chip is still one of the best Wear OS smartwatches around or perhaps the most popular Wear OS smartwatch – A title Ticwatch Pro 3 already contests. Both smartwatches spot a sturdy and sophisticated build and feature a microphone, a loudspeaker, 8GB and 1GB RAM storage, and inbuilt GPS. Both can track your heart rate, sleep, calories, steps, and more. Which is a better smartwatch? Experts outrightly say Ticwatch Pro 3. Read further as the following comparison chart compares the difference between these two.

Which is Better?

Ticwatch Pro 3 is a better smartwatch than Fossil Gen 5 and there’s no doubt about that. It offers more inhouse fitness tracking features like blood oxygen tracking, hearing protection, and stress management which certainly makes it a better fitness smartwatch. Moreover, with 4100 under the hood, Ticwatch Pro 3 boasts a better performance in GPU and CPU which by extension leaves it with longer battery life.

On the other hand, Fossil Gen 5 is no doubt a decent smartwatch. For one, I prefer it’s stainless steel build and circular design to that of Tiwatch Pro.

So, if you’re looking to buy a Wear OS smartwatch, I think Ticwatch Pro 3 remains the best for now until we see a Fossil smartwatch powered by the 4100 chip.

Which is Right For You?

Both sizes of the Watch SE share the same features in common except for the differences in dimension and display sizes. The right choice for you is based on the size of your wrist, if you have a thin wrist, then the 40mm will make a suitable fit. Although, many still prefer the 44mm which is very compact and allows you to see more at a glance.

Features Compared

  1. Both Are Well Designed – Watch SE has a better design, but lacks always-on display
  2. The design of both smartwatches is outstanding, aluminum has been used for the case of Sense and Watch SE which is very lightweight. Talking of the straps, both come with silicone straps which adds to making these comfortable to wear. Apple introduced the solo and braided loop straps which are very easy to put on, meanwhile, Sense has a buckle design which is also easy to fix. The good thing is that you can change the straps on both smartwatches with compatible straps of your choice. Its Corning Gorilla Glass covering the display of Sense, while a more refined sapphire glass covers that of Watch SE.

AMOLED powers the 1.58 inches display of Sense, while Watch SE which is available in two sizes; 44mm and 40mm has 1.78 inches and 1.57 inches respectively which are both powered by LTPO OLED. The viewing experience on both smartwatches is satisfying to the best of my knowledge, although not the best experience under direct sunlight. It’s unfortunate Watch SE lacks an always-on display which is present in Watch 6. However, Sense has an always-on display. And there are lots of watch faces to choose from on the respective companion apps.

Looking at the navigation features, Fitbit Sense has a haptic button which I personally don’t like, meanwhile Watch SE has a digital rotating bezel with a haptic feedback mechanism. There is also the touchscreen feature on both smartwatches, and that’s to say it’s easy to interact with these two.

Both smartwatches are rated 5ATM which means you can wear any of these two to the pool. So in other words, I’ll say both smartwatches have very nice designs that are good enough, even though I think Watch SE has more refined and attractive aesthetics.

  3. Comprehenive Fitness Smartwatches
  4. The major factor pushing the smartwatch market up is fitness and health tracking. Each of these two is fitness-oriented and well designed to track your daily activities to help you stay fit. Sleep tracking, heart rate tracking, stress management, steps and floors counting as well as inbuilt GPS are some of the basics that are present in these two. You can also log your water and food intake on both smartwatches and a menstrual cycle app that allows women to log and track their monthly cycle.

There are 20 preset sport modes on Sense, Apple has added some more preset sport modes to their watches, so you still get more options to choose from. Fitness tracking accuracy is still a bone of contention, however, many agree Fitbit and Apple are some of the best trackers.

Fitbit introduced ECG tracking to Sense which makes it the most advanced Fitbit smartwatch. It also has an EDA stress sensor that monitors your stress level, and as well as a temperature sensor that monitors your body temperature. With an ECG app on Sense, you can take an ECG test directly from the watch and this can help detect irregular heart rhythms. Another feature of Sense which is available on many other Fitbit smartwatches is SpO2 blood oxygen tracking. This is not a complete feature as it only tracks your blood oxygen overnight. It then shows your SpO2 levels when you wake up through the Fitbit Signature watch face. Watch SE lacks ECG and blood oxygen tracking – features reserved for Watch 6.

  5. Media and Storage – Watch SE has 32GB and more
  6. Talk about the media features on both smartwatches, Watch SE has a massive 32GB storage capacity which is far more than what you get from Sense which has only 4GB. Both smartwatches offer various ways through which you can enjoy music on the watch. You can’t add your personal music to Sense which I’m not happy about.

There is a microphone and loudspeaker on both smartwatches which is suppose to allow you to make and receive calls from the watch. However, for now, Fitbit Sense doesn’t allow you to make and receive calls. This feature may be added in the future. Meanwhile, you can make and receive calls directly from Watch SE. The cellular model of Watch SE is a standalone smartwatch that allows you to make and receive calls directly from the watch independent of your phone.

Alexa voice is available on Sense and later Google Assistant will be added which will give you more options to use your voice, while on the other hand, Siri allows you to do a whole lot with your voice on Apple smartwatches.

  7. Notifications
  8. Managing notifications you receive on your phone is one of the basic functions of a smartwatch. The Watch SE and Sense are not left out of these features, as both allow you to receive and reply to notifications with your voice, preset replies, and emojis. You can’t type your reply with Fitbit Sense – a feature that is preset on Watch SE and on many Samsung smartwatches.

  9. Battery Life – Fitbit Sense has up to 6 days battery life
  10. The longer the battery life, the better, and in that regard, Sense just like Versa 3 can last up to 6 days from a single charge, while Watch SE just like all Apple smartwatches barely lasts up to a day. In other words, you’ll need to charge the Watch SE everyday in other stay connected.

Which Should You Buy?

Obviously, these two are just as good as you can imagine. However, Apple smartwatches are only compatible with iPhones. So if you own an android phone, Sense is the right choice for you. You can also check out Galaxy Watch 3 which I believe is a better smartwatch. And if you own an iPhone, Watch SE or other higher-end Apple smartwatches like Watch 5 or Watch 6 will make a perfect choice.
