Fossil Gen 5 vs 6 – What’s New?

Before we talk about the differences, let’s talk about what’s New to Gen 6.

  1. Snapdragon 4100+ Powers Gen 6
  2. While this might not be a very cheerful news, it is certainly a decent improvement from the Snapdragon 3100 which powers the Fossil Gen 5. The 4100+ is a 12nm chip which that boasts a performance of up to 30%. It also features the QCC1110 co-processor that was first introduced to the 3100 chip. This co-processor handles the always-on display mode feature and other small tasks, thereby saving you battery life.

  3. Fossil Gen 6 has Spo2
  4. Spo2 blood oxygen measurement has been introduced to Gen 6. It will allow you to measure your blood oxygen to see how well your blood utilizes oxygen. This feature can come in handy in helping you understand how well you sleep and if you are climbing, it can help you know when to stop climbing. Although this feature is long overdue, it’s better late than never.

  5. Fossil Gen 6 has Bluetooth 5.0 – Faster transfer and Connectivity
  6. Another new feature of the Gen 6 is that it comes with Bluetooth 5.0 compared to Bluetooth 4.2 of its predecessor. This enables faster transfer allowing you to save time and battery life.

  7. Gen Has a Longer Battery Life

As a result of the 4100+ chip paired with 1GB RAM, the Gen 6 has slightly faster performance than its predecessor. Fossil claims a 30% boost in performance which will allow you to do more in lesser time. This also translates to a slightly longer battery life than the Gen 5.

The 4100+ is a 12nm chip compared to the 28nm process of the 3100 chip. It boasts a performance by up to 30%. It also features the QCC1110 co-processor introduced to the 3100 chip. This co-processor handles the always-on display mode feature and other small tasks, thereby saving you battery life.

Fossil Gen 5 vs 6: Should You Upgrade?

Snapdragon 4100+ doesn’t represent a significant difference. However, any boost in performance for a Wear OS smartwatch is highly welcomed on our end. Beyond that, Spo2 blood oxygen measurement is now available. If these and other few additions are worth more to you, then it’s worth upgrading.

On the other Gen 5 isn’t doing bad either. It’s undoubtedly the most popular Wear OS before the arrival of the Galaxy Watch 4. It’s a fine smartwatch and a comprehensive one loaded with lots of features.

Starting with the prices, the 44mm is priced higher than the 40mm size. This is because it has a bigger display that lets you see more. It also has a bigger battery capacity that allows you to go longer.

The 40mm Bluetooth model costs $249.99, while the 44mm Bluetooth model costs $279.99. On the other hand, the 40mm LTE model costs $299.99, while the 44mm LTE model costs $329.99.

Design – The 40mm is a more compact smartwatch

Although, the 44mm is very compact, the 40mm is a more compact smartwatch.

The 44mm has a dimension of 44 x 43.3 x 9.8mm and weighs just 30g (excluding straps) while the 40mm size has a dimension of 40.4 x 39.3 x 9.8mm and weighs just 26g (excluding straps). Even though the 44mm is bigger and weighs more than the 40mm size, these two are some of the most compact smartwatches and also the slimmest smartwatches ever seen. Moreover, going by their weights, each of these two is very very lightweight. You probably will forget you’re wearing something on your wrist. I must say kudos to Samsung!

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 (44mm) vs (40mm) – Which Size is Right For You?

Which Size is Right For You?

In simple terms, the 40mm is a woman smartwatch. Its the perfect fit for individuals with thing wrists. On the other hand, the 44mm is more suitable for men and individuals with fat wrist.

To get the best choice, simply take a measurement of your wrist ankle and compare it to the size of the watch.
For instance, my wrist-ankle is 48mm wide, so I will definitely go for the 44mm size. If I go for the 40mm size, it will be too small on my wrist and it will look awkward.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Bluetooth vs LTE Prices -The Bluetooth model is cheaper

The Bluetooth model is cheaper

Starting with the Prices, the LTE model is priced higher as a result of its standalone capabilities. The 40mm Bluetooth model costs $249.99, while the 44mm Bluetooth model costs $279.99.

Cellular Connectivity/Standalone Capabilities – The LTE model is a standalone smartwatch

The LTE model comes with eSIM that enables you make calls and receive messages independent of a smartphone

The main difference between the LTE and Bluetooth models is the presence of an eSIM in the LTE model. This enables standalone capabilities like being able to make and receive calls independent of a smartphone. It can also receive messages, and you can install apps directly on the watch independent of a smartphone.

You can do all these with the Bluetooth model, but your phone must be nearby to make and receive calls and receive messages or to install apps.

It’s about the added freedom that comes with the LTE model. So, if you’re looking for a smartwatch that allows you to receive messages, make and receive calls without carrying your phone along, then the LTE model will suffice.

Although the 46mm is not bulky and it’s also somewhat lightweight going by the average weights of smartwatches.

The strap sizes also differ, the 42mm is compatible with 20mm straps (width) while the 46mm is compatible with 22mm.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic (42mm) full specs and features

This is where the difference between the Bluetooth and LTE models exists. The LTE model comes with an eSIM that enables cellular connectivity. This makes it a standalone smartwatch that can make and receive calls independent of a smartphone. Unlike, the Bluetooth model which will require you to have your phone nearby before you can be able to make and receive calls.

It doesn’t just stop at making calls, the LTE model can also install apps or you can browse the Internet independently especially where WiFi is available. In other words, the LTE model gives you freedom from your phone but it will cost you more.

Before you decide to buy the LTE model, you want to be sure you are buying the right model for your region. There are fo LTE models; SM-895, SM-895U, SM-885U, SM-895F, SM-885F, SM-895N, and SM-885N. The first two are for the US.

The price also differs, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic 46mm Bluetooth/WiFi will cost you $379.99 and the 42mm Bluetooth/WiFi will cost you $349.99. The 46mm LTE model is priced at $429.99 while the 42mm LTE model is priced at $399.99.

Although the battery capacity of both models is the same, it’s expected that when LTE is enabled on the LTE model, it’ll have a shorter battery life than the Bluetooth model.

Other Features are Also the Same for Both Models

Beyond these, both the Bluetooth and LTE model come with a 16GB storage capacity that allows you to store more of your favorite tracks, you will also get access to more of your favorite music streaming services like Spotify and more.
There is Samsung pay that allows you to make payments directly from both models. And you can also manage call, SMS, and app notifications effortlessly. The battery capacity is the same for both smartwatches. So, you can expect about the same battery life. However, with LTE enabled, the LTE model will definitely have a shorter battery life compared to the Bluetooth model.

Galaxy Watch 4 Classic Bluetooth or LTE – Which is Right For You

The simple answer, if you want to stay connected at all times without having to carry your phone along, the LTE model is a great choice. Although, it will cost you more. You also have to factor in the cost of data connectivity. If you’re okay with these additional costs, then you can go for the LTE model. Be sure to check which model is supported in your country and the supported service provider. You should check with your service provider if your smartphone plan covers that of the watch.

On the other hand, Bluetooth/WiFi model is a popular choice among Samsung fans. It has every feature present in the LTE model but will require your phone for functions that require cellular connectivity. Since last year, I have been using the Galaxy Watch 3 Bluetooth model, and I can say it has been an amazing smartwatch. I could make and receive calls but my phone must be nearby. Moreover, the Bluetooth model is cheaper.

Fitbit Luxe Standard vs Special Edition – Know the Differences

There is a new fitness tracker from Fitbit, it’s the Fitbit Luxe. It’s a new product with a totally different design and appearance, although it shares a lot in common with Fitbit Charge 4 and Inspire 2. Fitbit Luxe is a compact smartband with a very stylish design. It comes in a stainless steel case paired with interchangeable silicone straps. It is the first Fitbit smartband to be powered by AMOLED which is very rich in colors, while the battery life is expected to last up to 5 days. It’s equipped with a variety of fitness-focused features such as SpO2 measurement, heart rate sensor, sleep tracking, stress management, and many more. It however lacks inbuilt GPS which is a big setback but can still track your outdoor activities via connected phone GPS. In this review, we take a look at the differences between Fitbit Luxe Standard vs Fitbit Luxe Special edition.

Fitbit Luxe Design

Fitbit Luxe is a compact and lightweight smartband built with fitness enthusiasts in mind. It has a small 0.76-inch display that is powered by AMOLED. This will offer a richer and better viewing experience just like you would with Versa 3 or Sense. This is also one aspect where the Luxe shines over Charge 4.

Fitbit Luxe (source: Fitbit.com)
The case is made of stainless steel which contributes to its stylish appearance. The straps are made of silicone and are interchangeable with any compatible band of your choice. Out of the box, the Luxe comes with both large and small straps. The small strap fits a wrist of 5.5″ – 7.1″ in circumference, while the large straps fit a wrist of 7.1″ – 8.7″ in circumference.

Fitbit Luxe is rated 5ATM just like many Fitbit wearables. This means it’s swim-proof, you can wear it to the swimming pool, but diving with it is not recommended.

Fitbit Luxe (Special edition)

Fitbit Luxe Standard vs Fitbit Luxe Special Edition: The Difference

The only difference between Fitbit Luxe Standard and Special Edition comes in the type of band that comes with the device. While the Standard edition comes with silicone straps (small & large), the Special edition model comes with a soft gold stainless steel Gorjana Parker link bracelet in addition to a Peony classic band (small & large). For this, you will have to pay $50 more for the special edition in additon to the base model price of $150. In addition, while the Standard edition is available in three colors; black band/graphite case, white band/soft-gold case, and orchid band/platinum case, the Special edition is available in one color, soft-gold Gorjana strap/soft-gold case.

Fitbit Luxe Fitness Tracking Features

Moving away from the design, Fitbit Luxe is decently equipped with a handful of sensors which includes a heart rate sensor, accelerometer, and Red and infrared sensors for oxygen saturation (SpO2) measurement.

This enables the Luxe to track your steps, daily calories burnt, heart rate, sleep, stress, and blood oxygen. Like I mentioned earlier, there is no inbuilt GPS in the Fitbit Luxe which for me is a very big disappointment. However, you can still track your outdoor activities as long as you carry your phone along. I have never found it convenient to carry my phone along while running outdoor.

There are 20 sport modes to choose from, you can also select about 6 exercises to auto-detect and track with Fitbit SmartTrack. It also features menstrual cycle tracking for women.

Upon checkout, you can choose to optin for Fitbit Premium which offers deeper insights that connect the dots across your activity, heart rate, stress, and sleep so you can make smarter choices about your health.
Fitbit lux battery life

Fitbit Luxe Battery Life

Fitbit states that the Luxe is tested to last up to 5 days. This is great as it allows you to go multiple days from a single charge. It also means that you will most likely need to charge this device every 2 days or more depending on usage.

Managing Text, SMS and App Notifications with Fitbit Luxe

You can also manage text, SMS, and other notifications you receive on your phone with Fitbit Luxe. This can be setup from the Fitbit app. You will also find the “do not disturb mode” and “sleep mode” that allows you to choose when to mute notifications and any other form of distraction. You can’t reply to notifications with the Fitbit Luxe, and it also lacks music control as well as remote camera control. However, there is an alarm and timer app.

Fitbit Luxe Battery Life

Fitbit states that the Luxe can last up to 5 days from a single charge with mixed usage. This isn’t really bad, but its lower than that of Charge 4 which has up to 7 days of battery life. It comes with a charging dock which takes about 1-2 hours to charge to full.

Companion app and Compartibility

The Fitbit app is the companoin for Fitbit Luxe just like it does for other Fitbit tracking devices. The app allows you to setup the Fitbit Luxe and from the app you can manage a whole lot of how the device functions. It is available on both Google Play store and iOS devices. Fitbit Luxe is compartible with both Android and iOS devices. It supports iOS 13.3 or higher and Android 8.0 or higher.
