If you find this post helpful, please share it. Thank you!

Like most Galaxy watches, the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro are both equipped with a speaker and microphone. These two pieces of hardware will allow you to make and receive calls directly on the watch. Moreover, the Galaxy Watch 5 series also feature a phone and contact apps that makes making and receiving calls on the watch a worthwhile experience. In today’s guide, we’ll discuss making and receiving calls on the Galaxy Watch 5 in full detail.

LTE vs Bluetooth – Making and Receiving Calls

Before I continue, it’s important you know the difference between the Bluetooth and LTE models of the Galaxy Watch 5 series.

Both the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro come in Bluetooth and LTE models. Unlike the Bluetooth model, the LTE model is equipped with an eSIM that when activated enables cellular connectivity on the watch(just like your phone).

This cellular capability of the LTE model will allow the watch to make and receive calls without connecting to your phone. The LTE model will also be able to receive and reply to messages without your phone. Meanwhile, the Bluetooth model needs your phone for calls and messages.

This is the reason why the LTE model is priced a little higher than the Bluetooth model.

Making calls With Galaxy Watch 5

One of my favorite features of the Galaxy watches is the comprehensive call functionality. The Galaxy Watch 5 series aren’t any different. I can easily dial a number or just locate a contact from the contact app.

To make a call with the Galaxy Watch 5, you have two options. You can use the phone or contact app to start a call.

  1. Use the Phone app

Just swipe up from the homescreen to access your list of apps, locate the phone app and tap on it. The phone app will show your recent calls and there’s the contact app and dial pad on top of the screen. You can easily use the dial pad to enter a number you wish to call or alternatively, use the contact app to make your calls.

  3. Use the Contact app

Alternatively, you can also make calls on the Galaxy Watch 5 using the contact app. Simply swipe up from the homescreen and locate the contact app. The contact app on the watch automatically connects and syncs all contacts on your phone to the watch. This way, it’s so easy to access all your contacts directly on the watch. To start a call, simply select the contact you wish to call, and you should see the options to either call or send a message to the contact.

Receiving Calls on Galaxy Watch 5

Like making calls, receiving calls on the Galaxy Watch 5 is also easy and flawless. If like me you own the Bluetooth model, you will need your phone nearby to receive calls on the watch. LTE model owners don’t need a phone to start a call.

When there is an incoming call, the Galaxy Watch 5 will vibrate or ring depending on your settings. To answer the call, drag the green icon up to the left and to reject the call, drag the red icon up to the right.

When you answer a call, the call routes directly through the watch. You have the option to adjust volume, mute your voice, end the call and there’s a dial pad to enter a number while the call is going on.
